ABOUT POLAND
Poland is a fascinating country that serves as the geographical and cultural crossroads of Eastern and Western Europe. Located at the center of the Northern European plain, Poland has been a nation of survivors since the foundation of the first Polish state more than 1000 years ago. Through its turbulent history its people have managed to maintain their identity, and today, the country enjoys a crucial position as the largest of the former Eastern European states and one of the most popular members of the European Union.
Poland is located in the very center of Europe. With the total area of 312,679 km² (120,728 sq mi) it’s the seventh biggest country on the continent. Polish population is nearly 38 million people. The capital city is Warsaw (around 2 million inhabitants). Poland borders 7 countries: Germany on the west, Czech Republic and Slovakia on the south, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania on the east, and Russia on the north.
WHY STUDY IN POLAND?
Polish university education system has a history of 650 years of educating high profile professionals. It resulted with a profit not only for Poland, but also for many countries all over the world, where the Poles brought their professionalism and the spirit of innovation. Want some examples? Ignacy Domeyko established the geology research in 19th century Chile. Between 1872 and 1876 Ernest Malinowski built the world’s highest located railroad in Peru. Bronisław Malinowski was a creator of modern anthropology. Ten Nobel Prizes were awarded to polish artists, scientists and other public figures. Maria Skłodowska-Curie is one of only four laureates to receive a prize twice.

POLAND EDUCATION SYSTEM
Primary School
- It starts at 6 years of Age
- It is divided in to 2 cycles of 3 years. The first cycle is “integrated”, with one teacher handling alone all the subjects, while the second cycle offers a subject-based teaching.
- Young children often spend 1 – 2 years voluntarily in kindergarten before starting their primary education.
Middle School
Middle School covers lower secondary education and 3 years long.
Upper Secondary Education
- It prepares students for direct entry in to labor market and/or tertiary education. Upper secondary education has many forms and duration varies for each form.
- General Education can be pursued in general secondary schools. After 3 years, students can pass the ‘Matura’, which grants access to higher education.
- Vocational and Technical Education is provided by Technical schools and/or Basic Vocational Schools. Technical Schools are of 4 years and lead to the Matura. Their primary goal is to teach students for various occupations and trades.
- Basic Vocational Schools are of 2 years and grant a certificate of competence in various fields. Graduates from basic vocational schools can pass the Matura after an extra-curriculum of 2 years in a general secondary school or of 3 years in a Technical school.
- General Secondary Schools provide vocational education in 3 years, but only in fields described by the Polish Classification of Activities
Tertiary / Higher Education
- Bachelor Degree : 3 years
- Master Degree : 2 years
- Doctoral programmers are achieved in about 3 years.
